Psychology Today, Nigel Barber, P.hD.
ARTICLE SUMMARY:
Firstly, the articles' title seems pretty salacious and if you're religious you probably have the breaks on. You should know, though, that this literature doesn't say atheism is better, the "right" path or in some way superior than religion. It's essentially Dr Barber's findings that atheism increases with the quality of life--there being more of it in societies where there is more education and resources. Why they choose atheism over religion is also discussed, but (to me) it doesn't seem to take a very wide set of considerations into account (presence of religious institutes or Churches, communal influence, extent of state granted religious freedom).Anyhow, it's not as heavy as I'm making it sound, but a good thought starter on how the presence of religion in the world may change as societies become more wealthy/developed. Go read.
