STD Tests: There's and App for That

ARTICLE:
Perhaps you're familiar with apps like Bang with Friends and others whose objective is to get you laid. Well, add to the mix a socially responsible sex app; Hula is an app designed to help you easily see your STD test results, and share it with potential (or concerned) partners. With $20 million new STDs being diagnosed every year in this country, the app perhaps couldn't have come at a more welcomed time; many at-risk American's don't know how or where to get tested, and finding the results are often stressful as many under staffed centers operate on a no news is good news policy. How it works: the lab, with the users permission, uploads the raw lab data to Hula, which translates the lingo into easily understood terms. There are, of course, security concerns, especially among health care providers, or among smartphone users wary of security. While there are many hurdles to still be overtaken, the app does strive to make the awkward conversation about sexual health more approachable. It's also interesting that when combined with body tracking devices like FitBit we are coming closer and closer to a more empowered consumer, one that has all the information about their health in one place.
