Climate Change Happening Too Quickly for Animals to Adapt

The Guardian, 2013

ARTICLE SUMMARY:

A recent study has found that global warming and its effects on various ecosystems is happening so rapidly that the process of evolution simply can not catch up. The result, it appears, will be mass extinction for species that cannot adapt to a different, much hotter ecosystem then they experiences in the previous decades. At our current pace, by 2100 earth's climate is expected to be dramatically altered; in the history of our planet, species have had thousands and millions of years for their bodies to adapt to temperature changes, but the accelerated rate of global warming in the last couple hundred of years has not allowed species the time to evolve. The question then becomes, if species can't evolve quickly enough, will humans respond physically, environmentally or intellectually to meet this changed world, or will they too find the future a much harder climate in the next several hundred years as well?
