Psychology Today, June 2013
SUMMARY:Evolutionary psychologists have long held that women don't respond well to porn; they need more than just visual depictions of sex, something more emotionally substantial like a relationship based romance, a story. And with a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey on every nightstand, we can understand why they would make that hypothesis. However a recent study found that 30% of internet porn users are women, which calls into question the whole notion of women don't just want the bangin'. To be fair, women have often had to hide or suppress their sexual appetites because of cultural stigmas, which never meant they are less sexual creatures, despite what gender biased research has suggested since, oh, the Victorian Era. Good read about the changing understanding of how surprisingly similar sexuality manifests in men and women.
