Most, Least Racially Tolerant Countries

Washington Post, May 2013

SITE SUMMARY:
Maps, maps, maps. If you thought the Twitter Hate Speech Map was interesting, let's take a global perspective of what people think of their real life neighbors (specifically, if people have objections to living next to someone of a different race). Tolerance towards neighbors of a different race depended on lots of factors, such as how homogenous a country is, immigration to a country (particularly from poorer neighbors), it's national identity, its past as a society and how economically sound a country is. Interestingly, there's no correlation between being economically well off and being tolerant (South Korea, for example), but there is a correlation between being tolerant of homosexuals and a country being economically well off. There are a few surprises in there, for example Pakistan being more racially tolerant than France.
