Online Dating: Recent College Grads, Divorcees, Login

Pew Internet and American Life Project, Oct 2013

The stigma of being an "online dater" has been steadily decreasing, as social media continually plays a bigger part in connecting us with friends, family and strangers. Pew Research found 1 in 10 American's have used an online dating site, and off those, over half (66%) have actually gone on a date with someone they met online. It's a pretty significant jump, from 3% of online date site users in 2008 to the 10% today. An interesting finding, the largest users tend to be in their mid 20's (one can assume that they no longer have access to a campus full of singles and college social events) and mid 40s, a group that is most likely recovering from divorce, with the average age for divorce being at 37. The poll also found online dating to be especially high among those who were college educated, and likely more discerning in their qualifications for a mate.
