The Most Shared News by State

Mashable, bit.ly Media Map, October 2013

ARTICLE:
Pretty nifty; bit.ly, the people who brought you shortened url's for posting on twitter and other sites, started tracking what news media, websites and articles people shared through those links.  Then they made a map of the nation, showing what's the most shared and read in that state (as seen by their bit.ly link shares). Interesting snapshot at seeing what kinds of media people are consuming, as well as a real time traffic feature where you can see what articles people are currently sharing. While the net is still small by just using bit.ly URL's, it does give us a glimpse at what stories people are sharing in their networks, and where they are finding these stories. With social media being a trading floor of content, and the need for media buying that is smart and well placed, bit.ly's efforts are an interesting window into consumers content hunting-and-gathering.
Very easy to use and oh so pretty.
