ARTICLE:A record 3.2% of the world's population are living in countries outside of their homelands, with the Unites States as the most popular destination, with an additional million immigrants per year. While it may not seem like a high percentage, it's roughly 232 million people--more than the population of Canada or Mexico. Two thirds of these immigrants reside in Europe or Asia, hosting 72 and 71 million respectively. In an interesting trend from the last decade or so, immigrants are moving south rather than north, and the majority of immigrants are within working ages. With the global economy facing trying times, it's likely the search for work and cheaper cost of living is stimulating the immigration patterns in the last year. A surprisingly high number of immigrants (almost half) are women.
