The Opt Out Generation Wants Back In

The NY Times

ARTICLE:
A long one, but an interesting one. With Melissa Mayer, Sheryl Sandberg and other women leaning in to high profile careers in the midst of motherhood, much discussion has been reignited about the role of being both a mother and a professional, and the pros and cons of choosing one over the other. Ten years ago, there was a small cultural shake up, with many women happily gave up their professional lives to pour themselves into motherhood. Now, ten years later, the New York Times went back to these women to see what their lives were like now. An interesting case study about how traditional gender roles (you don't work, so you do all the chores/child rearing) replaces once egalitarian households, how "over educated, under stimulated" women grapple for a semblance of professional fulfillment beyond motherhood, and the difficulties (and pay cuts) that await them in joining the professional workforce a decade later.
