BOOK SUMMARY:A very lovely friend of mine bought me this book, and halfway through I can confidently say I know its a winner. With the boyfriend taking a sudden, addicted interest in video games, I thought the topic was interesting. We always write video games off as a bad thing, a waste of time, an anti-social, counterproductive activity not useful for the real world. But video game guru Jane McGonigal argues it's reality that's broken, not video games. She believes we can use the skills and behaviors developed in playing video games (team work, critical thinking, fail-reward systems) to fight everything from depression to poverty. Even if you're not a gamer, or perhaps, especially if you're not, this is a wonderful look into how game culture has just become our culture (didn't realize FB is a giant comment/like/post game, did you?). And, with 174 million gamers in the United States alone, what behaviors are being cultivated that can change the world. Good read.
