Natives and Transplants: Which States Got Moved In (and Out) Of

Business Insider, January 2013

ARTICLE:
A fun little pictograph from Business Insider showed the population movement for states in 2013; which states saw their residents leaving, and which got a flux of incomers. It looks like for relocation, 2013 belonged to the Northern states, primarily those the west and the midwest. North Dakota saw the highest inbound traffic for the US, most likely because of the booming oil industry that has taken hold this year, and with the national unemployment rate average 7.4%, it was enough of a motivator to move for many. In Canada, Newfoundland saw 75% of inbound traffic, which isn't too much of a departure as Newfoundland has consistently seen the most inbound traffic over the last ten years. For the States, that position is held by Washington D.C., which traditionally has experienced 67% of all of the nations relocations. Outbound traffic, people leaving their states and moving elsewhere, was seen highest by those living in Connecticut, New York and Indiana.

And if you really want to geek out on states, all time the top three states that see the highest number of movement, both inbound and outbound, is California, Texas and Florida, which shouldn't be too surprising given their size, population and proximity to borders or point of entrance for international immigration. Fun to read, have at it!
