US Women Are Dying Younger Than Their Mothers

Whether or not you agree with the Affordable Care Act, the fact remains health in the United States is in dire straights. More than 48 million people lack health care coverage, and we outrank other developed nations for things like life expectancy, premature birth and infant death, premature death rates and death by treatable diseases. A study published by the University of Wisconsin found that in half of US counties, mortality among females increased between 1992 and 2006, where their male counterparts saw just 3% of counties experience an increase. Women without high school diplomas, and those living in the South and West, appear to by dying younger than their mothers did. Women are now expected to die 5 years earlier than their mothers before them, a drop so significant it hasn't been replicated in the developed world. But why? The results are inconclusive, but geographic, cultural and political factors are likely important, as is, of course, access to preventive health care.

Despite medical and technological advancements in health, women appear to be left behind, and no one is certain why.
