Wall Street Journal, September 2013
ARTICLE:
If you thought you knew Helicopter Parenting, wait till you hear this: it seems some of today's Millennial parents have found another way to stunt their children's development by trying to be ever present, in a growing trend of parents coming with their children to work. In various companies parents can be found at job interviews, the first day of work, and, in a bizarre conceding from some companies, special Open Houses for new employees parents to meet the company. An interesting article from the Wall Street Journal about companies like Google and Linkedin are catering to parents who they feel influence their prospective employees career choice. With more Millennial's living at home, not getting licenses and avoiding a slew of other traditional adulthood milestones, you have to wonder what the effect will be on a coddled workforce. And, for a generation often labeled as entitled, trophy kids, etc., it definitely makes you think on where the blame should be placed--on the "trophy kids" themselves, or the parents demanding the trophy...and co-interview. An intriguing and frightening look at the continued delay of adulthood for Millennials, at the hands of their own parents and now, employers.
