Retirement Age Going Up

Reuters, June 2013

SUMMARY:
The baby boomer generation (those born in/after 1946) is starting to retire, and there's been some notable occurrences now that they are free to hang up their workforce hat. One finding is that the average reported age for retirement is 61, an age that is higher than the 59 seen a decade ago and the 57 average in the 1990s. With current workers, they predict retiring even later in life, at 65. The reason we're seeing a delayed retirement age is primarily financial, with more benefits coming into play the longer worked and less deductions. However, on a happy note, 38% quit work simply because they had saved up and were ready for the golden years.
