ARTICLE SUMMARY:A new study shows when video game players battle it out with human-like game characters they have more violent verbal, physical and cognitive reactions than they do when fighting monsters or non-human characters. The study, however, doesn't provide any rationale on why gamers were more aggressive towards human opponents than monsters (or less human looking foes). Perhaps gamers can more easily read malicious "attack" facial expressions in humans than in non-humans, or the element of fantasy in non-human emotionally removes the player, stunting their emotional reaction to perceived danger.
